Apex court!

The 44 day summer break (May 19 - July 2) of the Supreme court of India has concluded. The apex court of India now heads into what could be a tumultous session as there are a slew of important and high profile cases that are to be adjudged. Some of them are : Ayodhya dispute; practice of polygamy by Muslims; Issues regarding Aadhar and National Register of Citizens in Assam.

It had already dealt with the lingering problem of the feud between the government of Delhi and Lieutanant Governor this week. Delhi CM has been an ardent supporter of full statehood to Delhi and was always found  grappling with the Lieutant Governor and the centre. Delhi’s LG had for some time, been accused of interfering with the matters concerning to state government in Delhi. Supreme court in an epic judgement gave a hint of breath to the Arvind Kejriwal govt as it stifled the power of LG, and explicitly stated the ruling party will have the  final say and that the LG should abstain from encroaching in every matter. It also nipped any ideas of rendering complete statehood to Delhi.

The summit court is now dealing the cases of decriminalising gay sex/marriage and tweaking adultery laws. Adultery law in our constitution says that the man who is involved in an illicit relationship with a married woman is liable to punishment. A PIL  filed by (.   ) asks to either repeal this law or charge the women equally as it is consensual and women are equally complicit in this wrongdoing. The centred asked the Supreme court not to consider the option of dissolving this law as it is indispensable to maintain the sancity of the marriage. As for the former, the centre rendered no opinion and asked SC to act on its own wisdom.
