Isolating Pakistan!

It has always been the same rhetoric from the Pakistan side be it after the Mumbai attacks or be it after the URI attack and even now in the aftermath of Pulwama attacks. We allege- they ask for proof- we garner evidence- they say it's not enough- and by then, the whole issue dies down. Its high time that India should look for long term measures that help stifle terrorism as a whole, in addition to the ad-hoc aggressive steps that are already being taken by India. Before jumping into the course of action, let us first understand the political functioning of Pakistan and its position and worth globally as seen by the big powers. To start with, it is a well-known fact that the present government of Imran Khan is backed by military outfits and he is more of a de-facto PM following the instructions of military heads. While things are a bit rusty with the USA as Donald Trump has been stringent on Pakistan backed terrorism, it has been maintaining g...

Lokpal

A lokpal is an anti-corruption authority or an ombudsman who represents public interest. What differentiates lokpal from other agencies is that all the government bureaucrats and politicians including the Prime Minister comes under his ambit. While Lokpal is at central level, it is called Lokyukta at state level. The Lokpal and Lokyukta Act commonly called as Lokpal Act came into act after the President ratified the bill in April 2014. Under the act, a search committe is to be formed by the government comprising members from diverse fields and also with ample representation from SC and ST caste. They should collectively appoint a chairperson and members of Lokpal. But since then, the appointment has been deferred for multiple reasons. But most of the reasons look flimsy and the government should have atleast hastened the process after a supreme court intervention in 2017, asking the govt to expedite the process. In the due course of time, an ammendment has also been made removing the ...

Economic growth

India’s GDP is expcted to grow at 7.2% this year after ending at mere 6.7% growth in the last fiscal year which was effected by the double whammy of “demonetization” and “Introduction of GST”. The manufacturing and construction sector is expected to pick up at a pace of around 9% growth after strangling at 6% last year. But the Central Statistics Office (CSO) is being pessimistic regarding the growth in the second half of this fiscal year. Investment spending, which has always been the aiding factor for economic growth might also be stagnant with the elections around the corner. All the hefty investments will hold back as there is an uncertainity of the  power at the centre and hence the rules imposed thereafter. The government, in an attempt to boost economic growth may dwelve into over spending on populist schemes. But it should be strictly avoided as the government has already exceeded fiscal deficit by 15%, and any further increase could only bring negative consequences...

CBI and Trump!

The Shutdown! It’s been three weeks since the USA has been under shutdown  with neither of the political sides backing down. As many as 8 lakh government employees have been furloughed without pay. Trump has put down the recent negotiation, reinstating that he would not lift the shutdown until the Congress agrees to fund the proposed 5.7 billion dollars for his wall and also threatened to impose emergency if this exigency doesnt die down.  CBI- government tussle! The hasty and unsatisfactory decision to remove Alok verma as the head of CBI, and transferring him to another department of though same rank, has once again raised concerns over the autonomy of the CBI. Though a committe headed by PM Modi has been convened as per the directive of supreme court, it is disheartening that the CBI head has not been given a chance to present his case.

Embracing failures!

“Failures and setbacks are ingredients of a greater success story!”   I always wondered what makes the successful people different from the ordinary people. Is it that they have brighter minds than the rest? Is it because they are gifted individuals? Is it because they have a quintessential potential in them? After all my 20 years of life, I finally realized that it is the power to accept failures that makes them distinguishable fromthe rest.              Effort is the foundation stone for the success but it only helps you to nudge you to climb a mountain. Many people put in the efforts trying to climb the mountain but as soon as they encounter a hitch, they panic. They surrender and give up their efforts. But there will only be a handful of people who try to defy these snags, or embrace them, and continue on their journey to the zenith. And those few are the people...

Whatsapp and lynchings!

Should whatsapp be held accountable for lynchings? Over the last three months the nation has witnessed lynching of many individuals, all who have been wrongly projected as a child-lifters to the people over there. In all these cases it was Whatsapp-a social messaging app which acted as a medium in circulating this bogus and fallacious news around the village. But is it right to hold whatsapp accountable for the naivety of people? No! Consider the Assam lynching case- A man after getting to know that his fiend is visiting a village nearby, served up his intention of killing the person by just sending an image of that person with a tag of Child lifter, to a member of that village. Soon the message proliferated across the village and suddenly everyone was aware about the person. So, when that person entered the village, the people immediately pounced on him and killed without giving a sense of thought or chance for that person to present his case. What do you observe in this ...

No-confidence-motion!

Stage is set for Lok Sabha to witness no-confidence motion against BJP on Friday. But is it going to be a tough fight for BJP? or will it be a cake walk. It is not first time that there are requests of no-confidence motion against BJP in Lok Sabha. But all those requests were quashed by the then speaker as there was no adequate majority to succour the request.( A minimum of 50 members should render support initially). After 4 years of its ruling in the centre, the BJP is now facing a no-confidence-motion after the speaker Sushmita Mahajan accepted the request of the Vijayawada TDP MP. But numbers suggest that BJP has nothing to fear. Out of 534 votes (11 seats are currently vacant), BJP govt needs to garner 267 votes to overthrow this motion. BJP with 274 members is confident of toppling the motion as there is also support from many other prominent parties. Then why is this no-confidence-motion raised by the oppostion parties in the first place? One obvious reason could be to ...
